Background: PRG-1/LPPR4

PRG-1 (plasticity-related gene-1) is a member of the lipid phosphate phosphatase-related protein (LPR) family. The 715 aa protein has a calculated (unglycosylated) molecular weight of 78 kDa. LPR members have six N-terminal transmembrane sequences and a C-terminal cytoplasmic domain thought to regulate phospholipid phosphatase activity. PRG-1 is expressed on axons in the hippocampus and is upregulated during axonal outgrowth. The C-terminal domain of human PRG-1 (amino acids 285‑715) shares 95% and 94% amino acid identity with mouse and rat PRG-1, respectively.
