Detection of SLC6A4/5-HTTLPR in HEK293 Human Cell Line Transfected with Human SLC6A4/5-HTTLPR and eGFP by Flow Cytometry. HEK293 human embryonic kidney cell line transfected with (A) human SLC6A4/5-HTTLPR or (B) irrelevant protein, and eGFP was stained with Mouse Anti-Human SLC6A4/5-HTTLPR Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB17292) followed by Allophycocyanin-conjugated Anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (F0101B). Quadrant markers were set based on Mouse IgG2A Isotype Control (MAB003, data not shown). Staining was performed using our Staining Membrane-associated Proteins protocol.

Background: SLC6A4/5-HTTLPR

SLC6A4 is an integral membrane protein that transports the neurotransmitter serotonin from synaptic spaces into pre-synaptic neurons. It terminates the action of serotonin and recycles it in a sodium-dependent manner. A repeat length polymorphism in the promoter of SLC6A4 has been shown to affect the rate of serotonin uptake and may play a role in sudden infant death syndrome, aggressive behavior in Alzheimer disease patients,and depression-susceptibility in people experiencing emotional trauma.
