SOX13 in Human Pancreas. SOX13 was detected in immersion fixed paraffin-embedded sections of human pancreas using Rabbit Anti-Human SOX13 Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB5118) at 3 µg/mL for 1 hour at room temperature followed by incubation with the Anti-Rabbit IgG VisUCyte™ HRP Polymer Antibody (VC003). Before incubation with the primary antibody, tissue was subjected to heat-induced epitope retrieval using Antigen Retrieval Reagent-Basic (CTS013). Tissue was stained using DAB (brown) and counterstained with hematoxylin (blue). Specific staining was localized to cell nuclei and cytoplasm. Staining was performed using our protocol for IHC Staining with VisUCyte HRP Polymer Detection Reagents.

Background: SOX13

SOX-13 is a transcription factor involved in the embryonic development and the determination of cell fate.  It is also known as islet cell antibody 12 since it has been determined to be a type-1 diabetes autoantigen.  SOX-13 RNA is detected in most human tissues with highest levels in the pancreas, placenta, and kidney.  Immunohistochemistry on human pancreas identifies SOX-13 in the islets of Langerhans where staining is mostly cytoplasmic but can also be nuclear. SOX-13 antibody testing helps identify latent autoimmune diabetes of adults (LADA).
