Key Benefits
- Contains optimized concentrations of insulin, transferrin, and selenite
- Chemically-defined media decreases experimental variation
- High lot-to-lot consistency decreases variation
- Performance tested on multiple cell lines
Why Use Pre-optimized and Serum-free Supplements for Cell Culture?
The efficiency of cell proliferation and maintenance of cell health can vary from one experiment to another depending on the media components, the supplements used to drive proliferation, and the quality of the starting cell population.
Although commonly used, serum-containing medium is inherently variable due to the undefined composition and lot-to-lot variability across batches of serum. Troubleshooting media variability can be a costly and time-consuming obstacle that can be minimized through the use of high quality media. Our ITS Media Supplement is a pre-optimized and serum-free media supplement that was designed to help maintain culture media consistency across passages and experiments. The ITS Media Supplement contains optimized concentrations of human insulin, human transferrin, and selenite.

- High lot-to-lot consistency decreases variation
- QC-tested on multiple cell lines

Scientific Data
ITS Media Supplement Supports Proliferation Under Low Serum Conditions. ITS Media Supplement Supports Proliferation Under Low Serum Conditions.Hela, MCF7, and HepG2 cells were cultured in media supplemented with 10% FBS, low serum (0.1% FBS), or ITS Media Supplement + 0.1% FBS. Cells were trypsinized, harvested, and cell counts were performed. For each respective cell line, cell counts were normalized against standard 10% FBS-containing media (100%).
Assay Procedure
Refer to the product datasheet for complete product details.
Briefly, ITS Media Supplement is prepared using the following procedure:
- Dilute the media into the cell culture media of interest
- Store completed media at 2 – 8 °C
Reagents provided in the ITS Media Supplement (100X) (Catalog # AR013):
Component | Amount (µg/mL) |
Recombinant Human Insulin | 1000 |
Human Transferrin | 500 |
Selenite | 0.67 |
Stability and Storage
Store in the dark at < -20 °C in a manual defrost freezer. Do not use past the expiration date.
Precautions
This product contains human transferrin. This transferrin was tested at the donor level using an FDA licensed method and found to be non-reactive for anti-HIV-1/2 and Hepatitis B surface antigen. As no testing can offer complete assurance of freedom from infectious reagents, these reagents should be handled as if capable of transmitting infection.
Materials
- Basal media
- Serological pipettes
- Pipettes and pipette tips
Equipment
- 2 °C to 8 °C refrigerator
Dilute 100-fold into cell culture media of interest before use. The final concentration of serum required with ITS supplementation is cell type and assay dependent. Titrate for individual use.
