Carrier Free
CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.
In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Stability & Storage: | Use a manual defrost freezer and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. • 6 months from date of receipt at room temperature as supplied. • 12 months from date of receipt at 2-8 °C as supplied. • 1 month at 2-8 °C under sterile conditions after reconstitution. • 3 months at -20 to -80 °C under sterile conditions after reconstitution. |
Scientific Data
1 μg/lane of ProDots®Recombinant Human Noggin was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (R) and non-reducing (NR) conditions and visualized with silver staining, showing a single band at 30 kDa and 150 kDa, respectively.
ProDots®Recombinant Human Noggin inhibits BMP-4-induced alkaline phosphatase production by ATDC5 mouse chondrogenic cells. The ED50 for this effect is typically 0.04-0.2 μg/mL in the presence of 50 ng/mL of Recombinant Human BMP-4 (Catalog # 314-BP).

Background: Noggin
Noggin is a secreted homodimeric antagonist of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs). It binds BMP-4 with high affinity and BMP-7 with lower affinity. Noggin regulates BMP activity in neural tube formation, somite patterning, cardiomyocyte development, and skeletal joint formation. Mutations of human Noggin are linked to multiple types of skeletal dysplasias that result in apical joint fusions. Noggin is expressed in defined areas of the adult central nervous system and peripheral tissues such as lung, skeletal muscle and skin. Noggin may also regulate the differentiation of embryonic stem cells into dopaminergic neurons.
