Carrier Free
CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.
In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Scientific Data
Measured by its binding ability in a functional ELISA. When Recombinant Human EBI3 Protein (Catalog # 11084-EI) is immobilized at 5.0 μg/mL (100 μL/well), the concentration of Recombinant Mouse IL-27 p28/IL-30 Protein (7430-ML) that produces 50% of the optimal binding response is 40.0-300 ng/mL.
2 μg/lane of Recombinant Human EBI3 Protein (Catalog # 11084-EI) was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (R) and non-reducing (NR) conditions and visualized by Coomassie® Blue staining, showing bands at 30-40 kDa.

Background: EBI3
EBI3 (Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 3 protein) also known as IL-27B, is a secreted cytokine (1). It shares similar domain structure as IL-12B except there are only two fibronectin type -III domains instead of three. Through non-covalent interaction, EBI-3 binds to IL-12A (IL-12 p35), IL-23A (IL-23p19), or IL-27A (IL-27p28/IL-30) to form IL-35, IL-39, or IL-27, respectively (2-4). In addition to forming the heterodimeric cytokines, EBI-3 can also function on its own. Expression of EBI-3 is induced in neutrophils stimulated with TLR8 ligands, with no detectable increase in IL-35, IL-39 or IL-27 (5). EBI-3 also mediate IL-6 trans-signaling through receptor gp130 in B9 mouse plasmacytoma cells (6).
