Carrier Free

What does CF mean?

CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.

What formulation is right for me?

In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

1091-CK

Formulation Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in PBS with BSA as a carrier protein.

Background: CXCL7/Thymus Chemokine-1

CXCL7 is a member of the alpha (CXC) subfamily of chemokines. Mouse CXCL7 cDNA encodes a 113 amino acid residue precursor protein that shares 72% amino acid sequence identity with rat CXCL7 (accession number AAK30166). The recombinant mouse CXCL7 produced by R&D Systems has been shown to chemoattract human CXCR2 transfected mouse BaF/3 cells, but not human CXCR1 transfected mouse BaF3 cells. Two isoforms of mouse CXCL7 have been produced at R&D Systems. The Ile48 - Ile109 mouse CXCL7 isoform (R&D Systems, Catalog # 1091-CK) has been shown to be 200-fold more potent than the Lys40 - Tyr113 isoform (R&D Systems, Catalog # 763-CK) as a chemoattractant for mouse BaF/3 cells transfected with human CXCR2.
