INTENDED USE AND DESCRIPTION: For use a quantitative control for the determination of human SP-D concentrations in biological fluids. Controls are supplied lyophilized. Please refer to the lot specific certificate of analysis and Simple Plex Lyophilized Quality Control product insert for additional information.

Shipping Conditions
The product is shipped with polar packs. Upon receipt, store it immediately at the temperature recommended below.
Storage
• Store lyophilized controls at 2-8 °C. Lyophilized controls are stable for up to 12 months from date of receipt.
• Reconstituted controls are stable for up to 6 months from date of preparation when stored at ≤ -70 °C. Storage at -20° C is not recommended.
• Individual frozen aliquots of low and high controls are designed as single-use entities. Thaw directly before use and discard any remaining volume.

Background: SP-D

Surfactant Protein D (SP-D) is a collectin family protein consisting of a collagen-like sequence followed by a C-type lectin domain. It is synthesized primarily in the lung by alveolar type II cells and unciliated bronchial epithelial cells. In addition, SP-D is produced by epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal tract and exocrine glands. SP-D binds to patterns of neutral sugars on micro-organisms to mediate direct opsonization and phagocytosis and is an important component of the innate immune system.
