Carrier Free
CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.
In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Background: CD34
CD34 is a glycosylated type I transmembrane protein; it was discovered as a hematopoietic cell-surface antigen (1, 2, 3). Porcine CD33 cDNA encodes a 389 amino acid (aa) precursor that contains a 20 aa signal sequence and a 275 aa extracellular domain (ECD). Within the ECD, porcine CD34 shares 55%, 48% and 44% aa sequence identity with human, mouse, and rat CD34, respectively. This single-pass sialomucin‑like transmembrane protein is heavily glycosylated and phosphorylated by Protein Kinase C (PKC) (4, 5). CD34 is found on multipotent precursors, bone marrow stromal cells, embryonic fibroblasts, vascular endothelia, as well as some populations of mesenchymal stem cells, and tumor cell lines, and it is a common marker for diverse progenitors (6). CD34 is involved in the adhesion of stem cells to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or to stromal cells.
