Scientific Data
Detection of Galanin R1/GALR1 in HEK293 Human Cell Line Transfected with Human Galanin R1/GALR1 and eGFP by Flow Cytometry. HEK293 human embryonic kidney cell line transfected with either (A) human Galanin R1/GALR1 or (B) irrelevant protein and eGFP was stained with Mouse Anti-Human Galanin R1/GALR1 Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB10353) followed by Allophycocyanin-conjugated Anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (Catalog # F0101B). Quadrant markers were set based on control antibody staining (Catalog # MAB0041). View our protocol for Staining Membrane-associated Proteins.

Background: Galanin R1/GALR1
The neuropeptide galanin elicits a range of biological effects by interaction with specific G protein-coupled receptors. Galanin receptors are seven-transmembrane proteins shown to activate a variety of intracellular second-messenger pathways. GALR1 inhibits adenylyl cyclase via a G protein of the Gi/Go family. GALR1 is widely expressed in the brain and spinal cord, as well as in peripheral sites such as the small intestine and heart.
