Western Blot Detection of Human Livin antibody by Western Blot. View Larger

Detection of Human Livin by Western Blot. Western blot shows lysates of G361 human melanoma cell line and SK‑Mel‑28 human malignant melanoma cell line. PVDF membrane was probed with 0.1 µg/mL of Human Livin Biotinylated Antigen Affinity-purified Polyclonal Antibody (Catalog # BAF1161) followed by HRP-conjugated Anti-Goat IgG Secondary Antibody (Catalog # HAF109). A specific band was detected for Livin at approximately XXX kDa (as indicated). This experiment was conducted under reducing conditions and using Immunoblot Buffer Group XXX.

Background: Livin

Livin alpha (KIAP) and Livin beta (ML-IAP) are two splice forms generated from the livin gene. Livin is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP) family that contains a baculovirus single IAP repeat (BIR) and a C-terminal RING finger domain. Livin inhibits the activation of caspases 9 and/or 3 when activated in specific cell lines. Livin alpha is a splice variant 18 amino acids longer in the BIR-RING linking region than the livin beta splice variant. The isoforms differ in their apoptotic properties.
