Background: NGFI-B alpha/Nur77/NR4A1
Nerve growth factor inducible factor I-B alpha (NGFI-B alpha, Nur77, TR3, HMR; NR4A1) is a member of the Orphan Nuclear Receptor family. NGFI-B alpha is expressed in the brain, adrenals, thyroid, liver, testis, ovary, thymus, muscle, lung and prostate. Its expression is induced in response to various stress stimuli and growth factors. NGFI-B alpha is involved in mediating apoptotic signaling in thymocytes and tumor cells, as well as having a role in signaling in the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. RXR has been shown to be a partner for NGFI-B alpha.
