Detection of P2X1/P2RX1 in HEK293 Human Cell Line transfected with Human P2X1/P2RX1 and eGFP by Flow Cytometry HEK293 human embryonic kidney cell line transfected with either (A) human P2X1/P2RX1 or (B) irrelevant protein, and eGFP, was stained with Mouse anti-human P2X1/P2RX1 monoclonal antibody (Catalog # MAB10533) followed by Allophycocyanin-conjugated anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (F0101B). Quadrant markers were set based on control antibody staining (MAB0041, data not shown). Staining was performed using our Staining Membrane-Associated Proteins protocol.

Background: P2X1/P2RX1

Biologic responses to ATP, ADP, and other extracellular nucleotides are mediated by P2-nucleotide receptors belonging to 2 major classes: G protein-coupled P2Y receptors and nucleotide-gated ion channel P2X receptors. P2RX1 functions as a ligand-gated ion channel with relatively high calcium permeability. Mouse studies suggest that this receptor is essential for normal male reproductive function. The development of selective antagonists for this receptor may provide an effective non-hormonal male contraceptive pill.
