Background: p21/CIP1/CDKN1A
p21/CIP1 is a Cyclin/Cyclin-dependent kinase (Cdk) inhibitor that blocks progression from G1 to S phase in the cell cycle. The expression of p21, a transcriptional target of p53, increases in cells where p53 is stabilized due to exposure to genotoxic agents.
