Background: Latent TGF-beta bp4
LTBP-4 is a 170 kDa extracellular glycoprotein that belongs to the LTBP/fibrillin family. These proteins contain a conserved pattern of eight cysteine residues (8Cys) and EGF-like domains. Mouse LTBP-4 isoform 1 is synthesized as 1666 amino acid residues and contains 14 EGF-like motifs and three 8Cys, the 3rd of which is responsible for disulfide-association with the latency-linked associated peptide (LAP) of latent TGF-beta 1. LTBP-4 is expressed in multiple tissues and is involved in the assembly, secretion and targeting of latent TGF-beta to sites where it can be activated. Two additional splice isoforms that differ from isoform 1 in residues 60‑150 or 67‑150, have been described. Human and mouse LTBP-4 share 90% amino acid sequence homology.
