Product Summary

Simple Plex assay for the detection of human Amyloid beta (amino acids 1-40) in cell culture supernatant (CCS), serum and plasma (EDTA/Heparin), and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

Recovery

Recovery at three different spiked concentrations within the range of the assay was evaluated.

Sample Type Average % Recovery Range %
Cell Culture Media (n=2) 98 94-103
EDTA Plasma (n=4) 91 86-94
Heparin Plasma (n=4) 88 83-95
Serum (n=4) 93 87-104

Linearity

Samples containing and/or spiked with high concentrations of human Amyloid beta (aa1-40) were serially diluted with Sample Diluent to produce samples within the dynamic range of the assay.

Background: Amyloid beta

Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) is a type I transmembrane protein that is ubiquitously expressed on cell surfaces. It undergoes complex proteolytic processing and is cleaved by alpha-, beta-, and gamma-Secretases to generate soluble APP alpha, soluble APP beta, and Amyloid beta (A beta) fragments of several lengths. One of these fragments, A beta 42, generated by beta- and gamma-Secretase activities, has been implicated in Alzheimer's disease. Aberrantly high levels of this peptide form and accumulate in the brains of Alzheimer's disease patients to create the senile plaques characteristic of the disease.
