Mouse alpha -Fetoprotein/AFP Antibody Summary
Lys19-Val605
Accession # P02772
Applications
This antibody functions as an ELISA capture antibody when paired with Goat Anti-Mouse alpha ‑Fetoprotein/AFP Biotinylated Antigen Affinity-purified Polyclonal Antibody (Catalog # BAF5369).
This product is intended for assay development on various assay platforms requiring antibody pairs. We recommend the Mouse alpha-Fetoprotein/AFP DuoSet ELISA Kit (Catalog # DY5369-05) for convenient development of a sandwich ELISA.
Please Note: Optimal dilutions should be determined by each laboratory for each application. General Protocols are available in the Technical Information section on our website.
Scientific Data
Mouse alpha ‑Fetoprotein/AFP ELISA Standard Curve. Recombinant Mouse alpha ‑Fetoprotein/AFP protein was serially diluted 2-fold and captured by Rat Anti-Mouse alpha ‑Fetoprotein/AFP Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB5369) coated on a Clear Polystyrene Microplate (Catalog # DY990). Goat Anti-Mouse alpha ‑Fetoprotein/AFP Biotinylated Antigen Affinity-purified Polyclonal Antibody (Catalog # BAF5369) was incubated with the protein captured on the plate. Detection of the standard curve was achieved by incubating Streptavidin-HRP (Catalog # DY998) followed by Substrate Solution (Catalog # DY999) and stopping the enzymatic reaction with Stop Solution (Catalog # DY994).

Background: alpha-Fetoprotein/AFP
AFP ( alpha -Fetoprotein) is a 69‑73 kDa member of the ALB/AFP/VDB family of proteins. It is secreted by fetal liver and serves as a carrier molecule for phytoestrogens, heavy metals (Cu and Ni), estrogen and fatty acids. Mature mouse AFP is 587 amino acids (aa) in length. It contains three albumin domains (aa 20‑201, 208‑393 and 400‑591), plus 15 intrachain disulfide bonds. Rat AFP contains an alternate start site at Met287 that may generate an intracellular 37 kDa form. Mouse AFP also shows an analogous site at Met281 that may produce an equivalent isoform. Over aa 19‑605, mouse AFP shares 83% and 66% aa identity with rat and human AFP, respectively.
