Western Blot Detection of Mouse MGMT antibody by Western Blot. View Larger

Detection of Mouse MGMT by Western Blot. Western blot shows lysates of Balb/3T3 mouse embryonic fibroblast cell line. PVDF membrane was probed with 1 µg/mL of Mouse MGMT Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB3299) followed by HRP-conjugated Anti-Rat IgG Secondary Antibody (Catalog # HAF005). A specific band was detected for MGMT at approximately 23 kDa (as indicated). This experiment was conducted under reducing conditions and using Immunoblot Buffer Group 1.

Background: MGMT

The O-6-methylguanine-DNA-methyl transferase (MGMT) is involved in the direct repair of DNA alkylated at the O6 position of guanine. MGMT transfers the alkyl group to its own cysteine thereby inactivating the MGMT molecule. Therefore, the number of MGMT molecules correlates directly with the cell’s ability to withstand DNA alkylation.

Long Name
O-6 Methylguanine-DNA Methyltransferase
Entrez Gene IDs
4255 (Human); 17314 (Mouse)
Alternate Names
6-O-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase; EC 2.1.1.63; methylated-DNA--protein-cysteine methyltransferase; methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase; MGMT; O-6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase; O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase; O-6-methylguanine-DNA-alkyltransferase
