FIZZ1/RELM alpha: Products
Found in Inflammatory Zone 1 (FIZZ1), also known as Resistin-like Molecule (RELM) alpha, is a cysteine-rich secreted protein that is a member of the FIZZ/RELM family. It is 111 amino acids (aa) in length, with aa 1-23 serving as a putative signal peptide. Mouse FIZZ1/RELM alpha has a predicted molecular weight of approximately 9.5 kDa and shares 50% aa sequence identity with the human ortholog.
FIZZ1/RELM alpha is expressed in white adipose tissue, but not in preadipocytes or 3T3-L1 adipocytes. It is also expressed in lung tissue, and its expression has been seen to increase during allergic pulmonary inflammation. FIZZ1/RELM alpha has also been detected in the mammary glands, heart, tongue, skeletal muscles, and alternatively activated macrophages.
